Belarus

Republic of Belarus (Belorussia) is a beautiful country in the middle of Europe with wonderful landscapes and archaic traditional culture. Belorussia is situated directly between Russia and Poland.

History

Here you will find charming and historically rich cities, such as Minsk with its theaters, museums, new shops and cafes, Brest shopping city and Vitebsk with its Jewish history and the birthplace of Marc Chagall, the village with a skewed houses and wooden churches, Baroque monasteries and historic castles. The root s of the cultural heritage goes to the time Polish - Lithuanian Commonwealth. The construction of the castle in the west of the country, such as locking the World and many baroque churches are from this time. The residence of Radziwill family at Nesvizh with the castle World belong to the cultural heritage of UNESCO.

Culture

Belarus is rich in folk culture. Next creating cultural factor for centuries had a large Jewish population group. Probably one of the most famous cultural figures of  Belarus - is the artist Marc Chagall, who was born in Vitebsk and has long  lived in France.

Nature

Mainly Belarus has lowland and hilly terrain. More than one-third of the country's territory is covered with forests. The Republic is called a country of blue lakes and green forests and affectionately "the country in 1000 eyes". There are many swamps and marshes.

Cities:

Minsk is the capital of the Republic of Belarus this is the largest city in the country with 1,8 million people . Minsk was first mentioned as a Menesk or Mensk at the beginning of 1067. Minsk is a political, economic and cultural center of the country with the institutes and technical schools, as well as numerous churches, theaters and museums. The main attractions in Minsk are: the old part of the city, before the so-called "upper town", the Orthodox Cathedral of the Descent of the Holy Spirit (who served before the fire in 1741, the church of the Monastery of Bernardine Catholic) and restoration of the historic town hall plans. On Lenin Street, across from the Old Town Hall, is the Catholic Cathedral of the Holy Virgin Mary, which belongs to the complex of the former Jesuit monastery. Directly on the bank of the river below the old town Svisloch, is Trinity Suburb (reconstructed old-town in quarter of the 19th century).

Vitebsk. Like many other cities in Eastern Europe, Vitebsk arose at the confluence of two rivers: the Western Dvina and Vitba the first time about the city is mentioned in chronicles in the 974. Today Vitebsk - is not only a regional center but also the cultural capital of Belarus. It created their works of art Marc Chagall, Judel Pen, Ivan Puni, El Lissitzky, Kazimir Malevich, among other things, in Vitebsk arranged important international festivals: Arts Festival "Slavic Bazaar" (second half of July), which has been held annually since 1992 and attended by many musical groups and artists from Belarus, Russia and the Baltic States; International Days of Chagall (the birthday of the artist 7 July), a music festival named after II Sollertinsky (first ten days of December), an international festival of modern choreography (in late November, early December).Need to see in the city are the Town Hall, 1775, 1760 and St. Basil's Cathedral Cathedral of the Assumption of the 12th century. A few kilometers from the city is the summer residence of Repin, a four-storey home of the famous Russian artist, which were born many of his paintings. The house-museum of Marc Chagall - a native home, where Chagall spent his youth. Opened in 1992, the art Center constantly hosts exhibitions of Marc Chagall’s works on total area of 114 m².

Mogilev. The city is located on the Dnieper River in the east of the country near the border with Russia and also it’s the regional center. Mogilev is an industrial port city (the development of mechanical engineering, chemical fiber, food industry) and cultural center with institutes, theater and monuments. The first mention of the town belongs to 1267. Need to visit Nicholas Church XVII. a richly decorated façade and iconostasis, Cathedral Sv.Stanislava XVIII century with unique frescoes. In 1762 Konissky Palace was built in the Baroque style by outstanding architect Johann Glaubits. A notable fact is that Alexander Lukashenko acting Belarusian President was studied at the local agricultural institute.

Lida - a city in the northwest of Belarus. It is located 120 km from the Polish and 40 kilometers from the Lithuanian border. The city was first mentioned in the 14th century. Leeds Castle - a fortress built in the years 1323 -1325 Grand Duke Gediminas and for many years remained inaccessible stronghold of western Belarusian lands. The grandson of Gediminas, the Grand Duke Vytautas, rebuilt the castle and made it the most powerful fortifications of the Grand Duchy of Lithuania. King Jagiello also loved spending time at the castle and even signed some historical documents in its walls. Animation consists of performances of the national team, chivalrous tournament and fireworks. All the action takes place in the castle.

Grodno. City of churches, castles and royal palaces. Fortified settlement was founded in the 10th / 11th century at the confluence of the Neman and Gorodnichanka. New Castle was built by order of King Augustus III from 1737 to 1742 as a place for the convocation of a meeting of the Polish-Lithuanian Seimas. TV tower height of 254 m, Corpus Christi Church of St. Francis Xavier, Boris and Gleb (Kalozha) church. The old part of the city, as well as Boris and Gleb (Kalozha) Church of the 12th century, are in the list of UNESCO World Heritage Site. Every two years in Grodno is held the Republic festival of national cultures, which are usually attended by 140 nations.
